Seated with Christ Children’s Lesson Memory Verse: And (God) raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:6 Children you have done so well learning the Six Steps to the Throne. This is the last step, Seated with Christ. We’ve talked a lot about King Solomon’s temple, where the throne was that had six steps leading to it. Each step takes us to a higher place in God, until we reach the throne where the very presence and nature of God dwells. What is a throne? Answer: The place where royalty sits. That seat is a place of rest. It is a place of ruling and reining. It is the place from which all authority in heaven comes through. It is the seat of a King. Who has the right to sit on a throne like that? Answer: Jesus. We learned in the last lesson that all power and dominion has been given to Christ. But what does our memory verse say? It says we were made to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. How were we made to sit together with Him? Children’s discussion It is through the Ascension of Jesus that we were made to sit in heavenly places in Him. Everything that God did to bring us back into right standing with Him, could not be fulfilled until Jesus ascended into heaven. Let’s turn our Bibles to John 20:15-17. Let the children read the Scriptures. Why do you think that Jesus couldn’t let Mary touch Him? Answer: Because the work was not completed until Jesus ascended. There was something Jesus had to do to complete the work of the cross. Does anyone know what that is? Let us read Hebrews 9:12 What does this verse tell us? Allow the children to answer. So the reason Mary couldn’t touch Jesus is because He needed to ascend into heaven, with His own blood, once for all. Can anyone tell me what is very important in this Scripture? Answer: The words- "Once for all". A few lessons ago, we talked about Jesus being the perfect sacrifice, the Lamb of God. Jesus, by offering Himself, became the last sacrifice needed to make atonement- there is that big word again- Atonement; who remembers what atonement means? Answer: It means to cover, to cancel, to cleanse, to forgive, to pardon, to reconcile. When Jesus became the last sacrifice, He became the "once for all." Our Bibles have these words written together like one sentence, don’t they? Have the children look at the words in their Bibles. But if you stop after the once, and then say for all, you realize this is saying Jesus entered the Most Holy Place once, for all meaning for everyone, having obtained eternal salvation. Jesus needed to ascend into heaven, with His own blood, once, for all of us, to finish the work of the cross. That work forever brought us into right standing with God, and gives us the very life of God within us, to live out of. Because of what Jesus did, our salvation is secure. Now, let’s find out what Jesus did after He ascended into heaven the last time? Read Hebrews 1:1-3 So what did Jesus do? Answer: He sat down at the right hand of the Father. Who remembers what sitting means to us? Answer: It means to rest. After the work was finished, Jesus rested. Remember when God created the world? The Bible says "and on the seventh day He rested". That was God finishing creation, and here, Jesus has finished making us new creations, and He is resting. But the wonderful thing is, that because we are one with Jesus, we are with Him in our spirits, where He rests. Do you think Jesus gets scared sometimes? How about afraid? No, because of what Jesus did, all of His enemies, and yours and my enemies are under Jesus feet. Jesus knows nothing can ever hurt Him again. If you are in Him, are your enemies under your feet? Yes. So, if you get scared sometimes, what should you do? Answer: Set your mind on things above. Remember that? You kids did great! Break for Praise and Worship and puppet skit. Let us say our memory verse one last time. The Bible says to study to show yourselves approved. Another verse is; Think on these things. Children, we want you to read your Bibles, think about all the things you have learned in these lessons, and ask Father God to give you understanding into what you have learned. So let’s go over all the steps one last time. Have the children tell the steps and say their memory verses. End the class by having the children partake in communion as they did when they started these lessons. It will remind them of the importance of communion, and give them the visual of the Six Steps through the pita bread. |
