Raised With Christ Children’s Lesson Memory Verse: If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Colossians 3:1
Children, did you know that the Bible tells us we would be quickened and raised with Christ thousands of years before Jesus was ever born? Everyone turn your Bibles to Hosea 6:2 I will read from the Amplified Bible What do you think being raised with Christ means? Allow the children to discuss their ideas. Being raised with Christ is talking about your spiritual resurrection with Him. Remember when we talked about King Solomon’s temple? We talked about how everything was covered in gold. That gold is speaking of the very presence and nature of God. In King Solomon’s temple, the throne was made from ivory, and do you know where ivory comes from? Answer: An elephant. Ivory comes from an elephant’s tusks. In order for the craftsmen to make that throne, an elephant had to die. Isn’t that what the Six Steps to the Throne is founded on? A death; the death of Christ? What color is ivory? Answer: white. What does white represent in the Bible? Answer: the righteousness of God. This throne was made from ivory and then it was completely covered with gold. Who remembers what gold represents? Yes, the very presence and nature of God. Now does anyone know what the throne represents? Answer: The place where God reigns. Did you know that the Bible says you are the throne of God? Have a child read Jeremiah 3:17 We know that we are the spiritual Jerusalem. When we were raised with Christ, we became a dwelling place for the very presence and nature of God, because we are made one with Christ. We just read the Scripture that tells us to set our mind on things above. We talked about this a few weeks ago. Who remembers what that means? If we are the dwelling place for the very presence and nature of God, how does that effect the life we live? Discussion Now we’re going to turn our Bibles to Ephesians 1:19-23 Have the children take turns reading the verses. What did God do to Christ after He raised Him from the dead? Answer: He set Him above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named. Now, what do you think that means? Principality means all rule and authority. There is no authority higher than the authority given to Christ. He fills every place, he has dominion over everything. Have a Bible dictionary handy, the kids can ask some tough questions. Now if you are in Christ, are all of these things a part of your nature too? Answer: yes! There is nothing under heaven that we have not been given the power to rise above. Who can name some things that don’t belong to us anymore, because we have been resurrected with Christ? Sickness Poverty Confusion… Did you know that when God resurrected us in Christ that was the very moment we became new creation beings? We have talked before about being a New Creation and a New Man. God first made us alive in Him, and then He raised us up together with Christ, and made us to rest in Christ. Everything that Jesus is, is now ours. We receive our new life through the resurrection life in Jesus. When Jesus was raised from the dead, He had a new kind of body didn’t He? And because we are His spiritual body, we know we are different spiritually. What is inside of us is bigger than what is on the outside of us. Can someone tell me how what is inside you is bigger than what is outside you? The more we seek Jesus and want to grow in Him, the more we will realize that our spirit man is above the things in our earthen vessels. Point to our bodies. With our kids a few lessons ago, I talked about our bodies being tents, coverings for our spirit man. Someday, somebody is going to grow up into Christ so much that their spirit man won’t be able to be contained in their earthly bodies anymore. Wouldn’t that be cool, to just completely live out of your spirit man? That is what God wants us to do, and it is important to keep our minds renewed, and to set our minds on things above. You guys did great! Now, one last time, you are the dwelling place of what? Answer: The very presence and nature of God! Because this lesson requires so much discussion time with the kids, I didn’t know when to make the break for Praise & Worship and the puppet skit. It will depend on the timing as the lesson is being taught. For a hands on craft, I bought plain canvas tote bags that the kids could draw on and write their memory verse on. They can use these bags to carry their Bibles and craft/ lessons in every Sunday. |
