Oogene: Hey Freddy, watch this magic trick!

Freddy: Cool! Can I do that?

Oogene: Naw, you gotta know how to do the trick.

Freddy: I know Oogene! Do a rabbit trick!

Oogene: Well…I don’t have a rabbit.

Freddy: I guess we could get one of your sister’s stuffed animals.

Oogene: Oh yeah, she has a stuffed rabbit!

Freddy: Hey Oogene, do you think you could make a stuffed rabbit come to life?

Oogene: I don’t know, Freddy. I guess we could try.

Oogene: Abracadabra! A moment of silence. Abracadabra!! (louder).

Freddy: Maybe you’re not saying the right words, Oogene.

Oogene: Ok. I’ll try something else. Abracadabra, alakazoom! A moment of silence. That’s not it either.

Freddy: I know! The words have to rhyme, Oogene!

Oogene: Ummm…..Abracadabra, ala-ka-fife, make this stuffed rabbit come to life! A moment of silence.

Freddy: Well, maybe we could try again later. Let’s go see what your Mom’s cooking, it sure smells good!

Oogene: Yeah, I guess I just don’t know the right words.

Oogene: Whatcha making Mom? It smells good!

Mom: I’m baking bread, Oogene? What have you and Freddy been up to?

Oogene: Aw, we’ve been doing magic tricks.

Mom: Where is Freddy anyway?

Oogene: He stopped by Jenny May’s room to look at her hamster. Mom, is magic for real?

Mom: That’s a big question, son. You mean like with your magic set?

Oogene: yeah, kinda. I tried to make Jenny May’s stuffed rabbit come to life, but nothing worked.

Mom: Oogene, your magic set is full of magic tricks that aren’t real. The key is to make it look real in front of people. But when it comes to making something come alive, only God has that power.

Oogene: Can something really come back to life after it has been dead?

Mom: That is one of God’s most awesome works. If we take the time to enjoy the earth God has given us, we can see it in all of nature. Most importantly to us, when God quickened Jesus with life on the third day, we were quickened with Him spiritually.

Oogene: Mom, what does quickened mean?

Mom: It means to be made alive. It is a Biblical word to describe what happens when God’s life comes alive in us.

Oogene: But how come we don’t know it when we are born?

Mom: Because God waits for us to desire Him. When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts, then God’s quickening life is given to us. We call it being born again because we become new.

Oogene: So a stuffed animal will never come to life, huh?

Mom: No, Oogene. A stuffed animal was not created by God, and it cannot make the decision to believe that Christ is the Son of God, and that He died our death to reconcile us back to the Father.

Oogene: Now I’m happy!

Mom: Why Oogene?

Oogene: Because I’m not a failure as a magician! No one but God can bring something to life. But I can sure do a good card trick!

Mom: Yes, son, you are good at what you do. Why don’t you go get Freddy and Jenny May, and I’ll set up a snack for you kids.

Oogene: O----kay!
