Buried With Christ Puppet Skit Splash! Oogene pushes Freddy down. Oogene: I baptise you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit! Freddy bounces back up sputtering. Freddy: I forgot to hold my nose! Oogene: Are you ok? Freddy: That was cool! Do you think I have to get baptized at church now? Oogene: I don’t know. Hey, it’s my turn, you baptise me! From far away Freddy’s mother yells: "Freddy! It’s time to come home! Freddy: Oogene, I better go before I get into trouble. Oogene: Ok. Hey, here comes Grandpa. Wonder how old he was when he got baptized? Ha ha ha!!! Freddy leaves. Grandpa enters. Grandpa: Well, grandson, I see you’ve got yourself soaking wet! You boys been having a good time? Oogene: Hi Grandpa. Me and Freddy was baptizing each other like they do at church. Grandpa: My my, well son, do you understand what it means to be baptized? Oogene: Sure! You get it done after you give your heart to Jesus! Grandpa: Oogene, come sit with me on this log over here. Umph! There, it feels better to rest yer keister, doesn’t it? Now son, how bout we talk a bit about what you boys were doing. Oogene: Were we doing something wrong, Grandpa? Grandpa: No, my boy, it makes me feel good knowing you want to be baptized. But first, I want you to understand what being baptized means. You see son, baptism is the burying of who you used to be. Oogene: Burying! You mean as in DIED and BURIED? Grandpa: Yes, Oogene. Being baptized is an outward sign that you understand you have been buried with Christ. Colossians 2:2 says we are buried with Christ in baptism. You know how we’ve been learning at church that we were in Christ when He was crucified? Oogene: Yes, Sir. Grandpa: Well, this is the same thing. When Jesus was crucified, we were crucified. When Jesus died, we died. When Jesus was buried, we were buried. It is the death and doing away of Adam and who we were in Adam. Oogene: Grandpa, that makes baptism kinda scary doesn’t it? Grandpa: Oh, no, Oogene. It makes you free! You are no longer a slave to sin because the nature or character of Adam has been destroyed in your life. You have been baptized into Jesus Himself! Oogene: What does that mean, Grandpa? Grandpa: Well, let’s let the Bible tell us. Romans 6: 3 and 4 says "all of us were baptized into Christ Jesus. Don’t you know that we were baptized into His death? By being baptized, we were buried with Christ into His death. Christ has been raised from the dead by the Father’s glory. And like Christ we also have a new life." You see son, you have the life of Jesus in you. Oogene: So getting baptized means that I am telling Jesus that I understand what He did for me? And I want to show myself and everyone else that who I was before I accepted Jesus in my heart, is not only dead, but buried too? Grandpa: Yes, grandson. When you come up out of the water you come up showing everyone that you are a new creation in Christ. The Bible says, old things are passed away, behold all things become new. Oogene: Wow, Grandpa, I really want to get baptized. Could you baptize me? Grandpa: Son, you just made your ole granddaddy a happy man. But how about we let the whole family share in your baptism and talk to Pastor about baptizing you at church. Oogene: Cool! Grandpa: You run along home now son, and get some dry clothes on. I’m gonna have a little talk with God and tell him how proud I am of my grandson! |
